Paul joined Burcon as a Business Development Analyst. His main focus is to assess and undertake the development opportunities that will grow the company into a world leader in nutrition, health and wellness. Prior to his role with Burcon, Paul was an analyst for Genome Alberta working on the commercialization of a metabolomics technology platform. His scientific background and research experience combined with his business knowledge allows him to understand emerging innovations and translate them into viable business opportunities. Paul specializes in early-stage planning, commercialization and business development. Paul holds a Master of Business Administration and Master of Biomedical Technology from the University of Calgary, and a B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia.
Paul is a regular contributor to the Burcon blog and Burcon Twitter account sharing health and wellness topics and how protein can benefit our daily lives. When he’s not thinking about Burcon, Paul enjoys volleyball, tennis, golf and good food and good times with friends.
Marina joined Burcon as a Director, Corporate Development. Her focus is to raise awareness about Burcon with the institutional and retail investor base. Prior to joining Burcon, Marina worked with Mackenzie Financial Services and in various roles in corporate access, corporate finance, equity research, and ADR sales with investment banks such as JPMorgan, UBS and Goldman Sachs in Europe.
Marina regularly contributes to Burcon's blog and Twitter on specific topics such as industry outlook, obesity and food security. As a long-time vegetarian, Marina is convinced that Burcon's novel proteins will help secure her own sufficient protein intake as well as that of millions of health conscious people.
When Marina is not on a roadshow or talking to investors she enjoys Argentine Tango, yoga, golf and having fun with family and good friends.
Dr. Schweizer joined Burcon in May 2002 as a process-engineering specialist. He relocated from Nancy, France, where he earned his doctorate at the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine, with an emphasis on the enzymatic hydrolysis of rapeseed proteins. Prior to his Ph.D. work, Dr. Schweizer studied chemical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, where he specialized in food process engineering and water technology. Since January 2003, Dr. Schweizer has overseen Burcon’s research and development efforts at its Winnipeg Technical Centre.
Randy has been with Burcon since 2001 providing his expertise in membrane filtration, and food, dairy and biotechnology processes. Randy has been an integral part of Burcon's extraction technologies. His extensive experience includes founding of Separation Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of membrane-based purification equipment and related services, and co-founding both Inprotech Corporation, a supplier of high quality whey proteins to the U.S. market, and BioPlex Nutrition, a nutritional supplement company focused on formulated protein supplements.
During his free time, Randy enjoys a good game of tennis, collecting vintage wine, and relaxing with a glass of wine.
Sarah Medina graduated with a B.Sc. in Science and a second B.Sc. in Food Science from the University of Manitoba. She has worked in the Canadian food industry in the area of product development and functionality since 1999. She has been employed with Burcon NutraScience Corporation since 2001.
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband and their two wonderful children. Scrapbooking family travel photos is a frequent activity for Sarah. During her leisure time, she stays fit and healthy with circuit training and bootcamps. Sarah also enjoys seeking out local restaurant gems with friends and family.
