What We Focus On
Burcon’s focus is on two types of protein; CLARISOY®, a soy protein isolate which is 100% soluble in acidic beverages and two canola-derived protein isolates Supertein™ and Puratein® which have applications in processed foods. Burcon is a pioneer in the commercialization of canola proteins and is currently focusing on commercializing Puratein® and Supertein™ in conjunction with Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE: ADM).
How is CLARISOY® Soy Protein Isolate Unique
CLARISOY® is a revolutionary soy protein isolate which is 100% soluble, completely transparent in acidic solutions and – most importantly - without the characteristic "beany" taste of traditional soy.
Use of CLARISOY® allows for the production of transparent, protein fortified beverages such as juices, soft drinks and sport drinks in the low pH range. CLARISOY® is also heat stable in beverages, allowing thermal processing, including hot fill with no loss in clarity or change in viscosity. Soy is a widely accepted, economical source of high quality plant protein, offering both nutritional value and recognized health benefits. In the past, beverage formulators looking to incorporate soy protein into their products were limited by the cloudiness and poor taste and mouth-feel introduced by the protein ingredients. CLARISOY® is a next generation soy protein isolate which offers all the benefits of soy protein incorporation but with minimal impact on the properties of the beverage to which it is added.
CLARISOY® is completely soluble.
CLARISOY® produces transparent solutions.
CLARISOY® produces very low viscosity solutions.
CLARISOY® is heat stable.
CLARISOY® has no off flavours or off odours.
CLARISOY® has no characteristic “beany” taste of traditional soy.
CLARISOY® is a white powder and is nearly colorless in solution.
CLARISOY® has a very good amino acid profile and high nutritional value.CLARISOY® is also expected to be price competitive, which would make it an attractive product in the current market of high dairy protein prices.
